At an altitude of 2,100 m, Sodo lies on a green and hilly part of the Rift Valley escarpment, notable for its maize cultivation.
The town is a pleasant place to stop off, and if coming from the dry heat of the Rift Valley, the cool, moist highland air will come as a relief. The town is surrounded by quiet, lush country roads within easy walking distance, that offer fantastic views to Lake Abaya around 30 km away.
