Set at an altitude of 1,850 m, Kombolcha is a relatively large town with a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
Set on a ridge overlooking Kombolcha, the Yegof Forest still supports relic populations of Menelik's bushbuck, vervet monkey, leopard and various smaller mammals. It also contains at least 62 species of birds, including the Abyssinian woodpecker, Abyssinian catbird, tropical boubou, olive pigeon and blue-headed coucal.
