Nechisar National Park

Offering a great diversity of habitats, from grass plains and dry acacia savannah to evergreen groundwater forest and wetlands, this 514 km2 park incorporates the "Bridge of God" isthmus that separates Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo.

Here, even novice photographers are sure to get a beautiful shot of Burchell's zebra among the white grasses that the give the park its name.  Boat trips also offer opportunities for up-close sightings of enormous Nile Crocodiles and mighty hippos.  The park is a haven for bird-watchers, boasting over 350 species including the white-tailed lark, Abyssinian hornbill and white-fronted black chat.

  • Take a refreshing dip in the outflow of the natural cold springs
  • At the Crocodile Ranch, peer into tanks containing Nile Crocodile hatchlings
  • Take a boat trip to the "crocodile market" where massive Nile Crocodiles sun themselves on a long sandy spit, while egrets pick parasites from their wide-open mouths
