This 887 km2 National Park is named after the two large lakes that make up most of its area, but which could hardly be more contrasting in their nature. Lake Abiyata is shallow and highly alkaline, whilst Lake Shala is Ethiopia's deepest lake (266m) with 8 volcanic islands.
- See flocks of flamingos that can reach up to 50,000 birds between June and September
- Look out for over 400 different species of birds
- Visit the ostrich farm and look for warthogs and gazelles
- Take a trip to the hot springs where locals believe the water to have healing properties
